Mrs. Wilma Simmons Norman, age 84 of State Road, passed away Friday, November 6, 2015 at her residence while under hospice care. Mrs. Norman was born May 17, 1931 in Surry County to Phoy and Margie Wilmoth Simmons. Mrs. Norman was retired from Lucia and attended Zephyr Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, James Simmons, Ray Simmons, Leonard "Chip" Simmons, Junior Simmons and Odell Simmons and sisters, Helen Holcomb and Irene Lehardy. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Hubert Norman of the home; son, Larry Hubert Norman of State Road; brothers, Willie John "Tink" Simmons and his wife Bobbi of State Road and Jerry Simmons and his wife Carolyn of Thurmond; sister, Mozelle Holcomb of Thurmond; grandchildren, Eric Norman and Chrishania Daye and her husband Barry; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Dodson, Kyle Dodson, Mary Kathryn Daye and Kaden Eli Daye. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 3pm at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Craig Key, Rev. Jerry Simmons and Rev. Greg Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621.
