Mrs. Phyllis Maines Carter, 79, passed away Friday, August 21, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Carter was born April 2, 1936 in Surry County to Glenn and Edith Brooks Maines. Mrs. Carter retired from Lucia and enjoyed assisting the elderly in finding employment as Job Coordinator for Experience Works, Inc. and was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Phyllis was an incredible mother, grandmother and friend to all and she truly loved the Lord with all her heart. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Carter. Survivors include; two sons, Dean Gilliam and wife Mary Ellen of East Bend, Darren Gilliam of Greensboro, two daughters, Diane Webb and husband Tim of Boonville, Denise Kimrey and husband Kevin of Roaring Gap, two brothers, Roger Maines and wife Marion of State Road, Jerry Maines and wife Pat of Jonesville, a sister, Donna Gentry and the late Mack Gentry of Elkin, five grandchildren, Rebecca Gregory and husband Kevin, Brock Gilliam and wife Jennifer, Preston Gilliam and wife Krystle, Charlie Cothren,(Mallory), Glenn Cothren, four great grandchildren, Talen Cothren, Morgan Gregory, Brynn Gilliam, Jaden Gregory, a special friend, Shayne Smith. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, August 23, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. John Attaway and Pastor Brian Galyean officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
