Imogene Pardue

May 30, 1925 — August 10, 2015

Miss Mattie Imogene Sale Pardue, age 90 passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at Pruitt Healthcare of Elkin. She was the third child of Duran Hill and Mattie Sale Pardue. She was employed in the Binding department of Chatham Manufacturing Company and retired in 1987. She was an active member of "The Binding Club" and enjoyed the fellowship for many years. She traveled extensively from the state of North Carolina to California, Canada to Florida many times. She was the 12th generation descendant of Thomas Martin from Dorset, England born in 1562. Her great-great-great grandfather Colonel James Martin "acquired a large boundary of land situated on the south side of Yadkin River in Wilkes County, NC extending from a point nearly opposite the site of the present location of the town of Ronda. This white colonial house stands atop a high round hill known as Cedar Hill. In examining the history of the old house one encounters an unusual gallery of distinguished men: Colonels of the War of 1812 the war with the Creek Indians. Captains and Colonels of the War Between the States, the director of Bureau of War Risks and Litigation in the U.S. Department of Justice, the grandmother of a rear Admiral decorated with the Order of the Crown of Belgium by King Albert in 1919 and the father of a late Justice in Texas tramped the broad antebellum halls taken from the history of the Martin family by Ruth Linney. Relatives left to cherish her memory continue the proud family traditions of greatness of which she was honored to be part of. Matriarch of her family since the passing of her brothers and sisters: Dean Pardue, Loline Myers, Tam Pardue, Marion Pardue and Melvorine Holton. She enjoyed her many nieces and nephews, and followed their travels and triumphs around the world closely. Left to cherish her memories are: Doreatha Mastin and husband Bill of Wilkesboro, Dwayne Myers and wife Barbara of Elkin, Anne Smith and husband Mike of Franklinton, Rebecca Dursee of Wilmington, James Pardue and wife Joella of Cary, Jane Combs and husband Randy of Ronda, Faye Dean Pardue of Clemmons, Robin Powers and husband Charles of Denton, Duran Holton and wife Tiffany of San Diego, California, Debra Combs and husband Roger of San Diego, California and Scott Holton of Clemmons. She also leaves behind 16 great-nieces and nephews and 12 great-great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Clingman, NC at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. Bill Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family would like to thank Parkwood Place, Pruitt Health and Dr. Evan Ballard & Staff for their care.
