Mr. Roy Grant Lyon, age 87 of Thurmond, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Lyon was born October 9, 1927 in Wilkes County to Clyde and Pearl Wood Lyon. Mr. Lyon was retired from Chatham Manufacturing, a member of Knobbs Baptist Church and a charter member of Austin Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Howard Lyon and grandson, Craig Shelton. Survivors include: his wife, Linda C. Lyon of the home; daughters, Doris Faye Cox and husband Sam of Elkin, Mary Ruth Shelton and husband Dewey of Traphill and Tammy Rice of Richardson, TX; step daughter, Teresa C. Brown and husband Don of N. Wilkesboro; step son, Tracy Crouse of Thurmond; grandchildren, Doug Shelton of Winston-Salem, Amanda Atkinson and husband Dennis of Elkin, Jeff Cox of Elkin, Jacob Rice of Texas and Joshua Rice of Texas; step grandchildren, Brandi Mathis and husband Justin, Eric Crouse, Tyler Sanborn and Winston Osborne; great grandchildren, Josiah Atkinson, Ezra Atkinson, Emma Shelton, Evan Shelton and Qua Cox; step great granddaughter, Natalie Mathis. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
