Mr. George Edwin "Ed" Royall, Jr., age 95, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at Trinity Elms Nursing & Rehab in Clemmons. Mr. Royall was born June 16, 1920 in Surry County to George Edwin Royall, Sr. and Janie Bell Royall. Ed entered the U.S. Army in 1942 serving during WWII and became a medic having just completed his education in pharmaceuticals at UNC Chapel Hill. Ed returned to Elkin and became the Pharmacist and later owner of Royall Drug. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elkin, Cedarbrook Country Club, High Meadows Country Club, UNC Chapel Hill Alumni Association, and VFW. Ed was an avid golfer and Carolina Tarheel fan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Byrd Royall; son, George Edwin "Eddie" Royall III and sister, Peggy R. Reibel. Survivors include: his son, Robert Royall of Elkin; daughters, Jane Royall of Taylorsville, Clara Martin and husband Max of Taylorsville, Carole Bodenhamer and husband Hal of Clemmons and Sara Royall Hemric of N. Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Cynthia Eldred, Darlis Martin, Damy Bair, Jessa Bodenhamer, Jacob Hemric and Ethan Hemric; great-grandchildren, Aura Royall, Saige Eldred, Ansen Eldred, Brandon Bair, Carly Bair and Dillon Hawkins. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Hollywood Cemetery with Rev. Greg Anderson officiating. Full military honors will be provided. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests memorials be made to Trinity Elms Assisted living P.O. Box 349, Clemmons, NC 27012.
