Lowell Martin Blackburn

September 16, 1939 — May 7, 2015

Mr. Lowell Martin Blackburn, age 75, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Blackburn was born September 16, 1939 in Wilkes County to Nathaniel and Hallie Darnell Blackburn. Mr. Blackburn retired from Sprint Telephone and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pansy Macemore, Verlie Cheek and Peggy Blackburn; brothers, Pete Blackburn, Harvey Blackburn and Ivory Blackburn. Survivors include: his wife, Sue Blackburn of the home; sons, Michael Blackburn and wife Lynn of State Road and Darryl Blackburn and wife Cheryl of State Road; daughter, Sonya Jones and husband Greg of State Road; sister, Alene Mathis and husband Edgar of Elkin; grandchildren, Ryan Blackburn and wife Emily, Eric Blackburn, Hannah Jones, Dalton Blackburn, Emily Jones and Cortney Blackburn. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 11, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Mitch Smith and Rev. Jason Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 1997 Pleasant Ridge Road, State Road, NC 28676.
