Mr. Leo Martin Garris, age 84, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Garris was born October 1, 1930 in Yadkin County to Luther M. and Bulah Johnson Garris. Mr. Garris was retired from Wilkes Electric and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Hayes Garris; brothers, Perry Garris and Ted Garris; sisters, Ella Mae Poindexter and Genevive Wolfe. Survivors include: his son, Norman Garris and wife Jennifer of State Road; sisters, Katie Darnell of Jonesville, Geraldine Key of Dobson, Ellen Wilkins and husband Larry of Boonville and Martha Absher and husband Ronald of Elkin; grandchildren, Mesha Garris Hearn of State Road and Greg Brewer and wife Amanda of Texas; great-grandchildren, Carys Brewer and Canaan Brewer. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. John Attaway officiating. Entombment will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family request memorials be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 109 Mt. Pleasant Church Road, State Road, NC 28676. The family would like to thank Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, Chatham Nursing & Rehab Center and Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home for their care.
