Mrs. Vetreal Hinson Masten, age 82, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home after a brief battle with cancer. Vetreal, affectionately known as Veat, Dede or Nana by those who loved her. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a kind soul that had a passion for life and her family. Vetreal always greeted everyone with a warm smile, sweet words and always left each person she met with a beautiful goodbye and fond memories. Vetreal was an active member for many years of the Elkin Rescue Squad Auxiliary, an organization dear to her. She retired from BB&T bank, but was a longtime fixture at Mutual Savings and Loan. She had a passion for travel, gardening, baking and bird watching. Mrs. Masten was preceded in death by the love of her life, Earl Masten; infant daughter, Terri Lynn and four brothers, Carl, Boyce, Howard and Harvey Hinson. She leaves behind her daughter, Sherrie Masten of Elkin; granddaughters, Carrie Ridgell and husband Andrew of Elkin, NC and Tiffany Frizzell husband Kevin of Mt. Airy, MD and. Vetreal was blessed to have six great-grandchildren, Liam Frizzell, Abby and Grace Magday of Mt. Airy, MD and Connor, Caeleigh and Colton Ridgell of Elkin; sister, Pearl Luffman of State Road and precious sister-in-law, Mary Hinson of Elkin. She also leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews and family that will miss her more than words. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 24, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Elkin with Dr. Rick Bennett and Dr. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
