Mr. Walter Karol Cockerham, age 86, passed away, Friday, April 17, 2015. Mr. Cockerham was born October 4, 1928 in Wilkes County to Berlie and Ina Durham Cockerham. Mr. Cockerham was a retired farmer and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Carter Cockerham; brothers, Virgil Cockerham and Audrey Cockerham and sister, Wanza Carter. Survivors include: his son, Randy Cockerham and wife Christine of Charlotte; daughter, JoAnn Holder and husband Jerry of Elkin; sister, Geneva Blackburn of Thurmond; grandchildren, Aaron Holder and wife Crystal, Angie Coe and husband Todd, Trevor Cockerham, Carly Cockerham and Julia Cockerham; great-grandchildren, Hogan Coe, Laken Coe, Abbie Holder, Kendal Holder and Khloe Holder; step-great-grandson, Levi Myers. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds and Mr. Ronnie Swaim officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family requests memorials be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Hough, Dr. Paul Gulley and the staff of Pruitt Healthcare for their care.
