Mrs. Louise Morton Nicks, age 91 of Elkin, N.C., beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away, on the evening of Sunday, April 5, 2015. Louise was the daughter of Gordon W. Morton and Mary Belle S. Morton of Greensboro, N.C. Louise was born in Columbus, G.A. on January 21, 1924. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Major William A. Brown; sister, Margaret M. Hilton and daughter, Miriam N. Cochrane. Louise was the devoted wife of Dr. Robert E. Nicks for 63 years. Survivors include: her husband Robert E. Nicks of the home; daughters, Barbara L. Nicks of Blacksburg, S.C. and Gail N. Richard and husband Jamie of Shelby, N.C.; grandchildren, Michael J. Cochrane, Leah L. Cochrane, Lynette C. Boone, Sara A. Richard, Zachary J. Richard and Christopher W. Richard; great-grandchild, Amber Cochrane; sister, Martha Belle M. Touchstone of Greensboro, N.C.; brother, Melvin E. Morton of Asheville, N.C.. A memorial service celebrating her life will be conducted Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. First United Methodist Church of Elkin, 340 Hawthorne Road, Elkin, N.C. 28621 with Dr. Mark Barden officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 4 Oak Branch Dr. # 4, Greensboro, N.C. 27407 or a charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all of their friends and extended family for their loving support during Louise's prolonged illness.
