Mrs. Nell A. Newman, age 78, passed away, Monday, March 23, 2015. Mrs. Newman was born June 20, 1936 in Surry County to Fletcher and Bertha Billings Newman. Mrs. Newman was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and was a bookkeeper for several car dealerships before retiring from the U.S. Postal Service. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Newman, Bob Newman, Jim Newman and Jack Newman and sister, Reba Brown. Survivors include: her daughters, Raenell Harris of Mountain Park and Teresa Nance of State Road; brothers, Don Newman of Elkin and Johnny Newman of Thurmond; sister, Ruby Wagoner of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Brian Harris and Brittany Holcomb and great-grandson, Dalton Wood. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and the many caregivers for their care.
