Mr. Ernest Delano "Pops" Poplin, age 68, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015. Mr. Poplin was born June 30, 1946 in Surry County to Ernest and Viola Pruitt Poplin. Mr. Poplin was a member of Rachel Baptist Church and was a dedicated Tyson employee for 50 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Kay Holloway and step-son, Marcus Prevette. Survivors include: his wife Joan W. Poplin of the home; daughters, Amanda English and husband Joel of Winston Salem, Tina Jennings and husband Ron of Elkin; step-son, Gary Prevette of Yadkinville; step-daughters, Jeannie Cahill of Roaring River and Tina Baker of Winston Salem; brothers, Russell Poplin of Hays and Hersa Poplin of Millers Creek; sisters, Eva Prevette of High Point, Frances Durham of Roaring River and May Jane Mathis of Ronda; granddaughter, Sophia Pardue of Winston Salem; step-grandsons, Dustin Holcomb of Roaring River, Austin Cahill of Roaring River and step-granddaughter, Paige Maltba of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Rachel Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Wiles and Rev. Mark Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 North Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621 or Rachel Baptist Church, 6388 White Plains Road, Roaring River, NC 28669. The family would like to thank Dr. Susan Hines, The staff of Forsyth Medical Center 9 West, Mountain Valley Hospice and the Tyson Family for their care.
