Mr. John Thomas Hoots, age 82, passed away Friday, January 16, 2015 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice home. Mr. Hoots was born February 6, 1932 in Wilkes County to Jack and Nellie Morrison Hoots. Mr. Hoots was retired from Wilkes County Tax Supervisor and was a farmer and entrepreneur. He was farmer of the year in 1970 for excellent conservation practice. Mr. Hoots was a member of the board of directors for Federal Land Bank and Farm Bureau. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Nell Mastin Hoots; second wife, Nena T. Hoots and brother, Warner Hoots. Survivors include: his sons, Gary Thomas Hoots and wife Louise of Roaring River and John David Hoots of N. Wilkesboro; daughters, Kathy Hoots Parks and husband John of N. Wilkesboro, Janice Hoots Ward and husband Joe of Roaring River, Tina Hoots Couch and husband Doug of Elkin and Tracey Hoots Bauguess and husband Chris of Thurmond; brother, Jacob Hoots of N. Wilkesboro; sisters, Audrey Brown of Mooresville, Ann Bumgarner of Roaring River, Betty Pugh of Wilkesboro and Evonne Bryant of Macon, Georgia; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A graveside will be held Monday, January 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Forest Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Keith Foster officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family request memorials be made to Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home 945 Zephyr Road.
