Laverne Cox

July 14, 1931 — January 12, 2015

Mrs. Laverne Rena Cox, age 83, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at Alston Brook in Lexington. Mrs. Cox was born July 14, 1931 in Wilkes County to Guy R. and Annie Bateman Cox. Mrs. Cox was a member of Austin Baptist Church and retired from Kmart. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Warren Cox, R.A. Cox and Rev. Cabel Cox and sister, Blanche Brown. Survivors include: her brother, Tim Cox and wife Debbie of Lexington; sisters, Joyce Billings and husband Ira of Thurmond and Sylvia Key and husband Danny of Elkin; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Austin Baptist Church with Mr. Phil Simmons, Mr. Tim Cox and Rev. Jamie Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800 Nashville, TN 37214. The family would like to thank the staff of Alston Brook for their care.
