Mrs. Maxella Holbrook Walsh, age 78 passed away Monday, December 29, 2014. Mrs. Walsh was born June 11, 1936 in Surry County to Jack and Opel Pinnix Holbrook. Mrs. Walsh was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church where she served faithfully for over 40 years. She was retired from Catawba County Schools as a cafeteria manager for St. Stephens High School. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Walsh and brothers-in-law, Jack Darnell, Harvey Settle and Tony Mathis. Survivors include: sons, Jeff Walsh and wife Denise of Elkin and Rodney Walsh and wife Michelle of Hickory; brother, Randall "Rudy" Holbrook and wife Nikki of Elkin; sisters, Mildred Settle of State Road and Linda Mathis of Elkin; grandchildren, Bradley Walsh and wife Katie, Tyler High, Hunter Walsh, Shelby Bailey and husband Darren and Eli Walsh; great-grandson, Jackson Walsh and a multitude of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Shelby Jean Ledford. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 2, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in Hickory with Rev. Homer Greene and Pastor Mitch Smith officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 pm prior to the service. Mrs. Walsh will lie-in-state Thursday from 12:00 -5:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made in memory of Maxella to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or the organization of your choice that supports children in need.
