Mr. William Curtis "Curt" Darnell, age 76 passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Darnell was born May 25, 1938 in Carroll County, VA to Lonnie Albert Sr. and Gertrude Hanes Darnell. Mr. Darnell was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He was a former volunteer fireman with State Road Fire Department. He was an avid golfer and longtime member and past president of Cedarbrook Country Club in State Road. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Jefferson "Jeff' Darnell and Lonnie Albert "L.A." Darnell, Jr.; mother and father-in-Law, Thomas "Leo" Stanley and Geneva "Gee"Stanley and brother-in-law, Kent Cockerham. Survivors include: his wife of 57 years, Dorothy "Dot" S. Darnell of the home; son, William Dennis Darnell and wife Lisa of State Road; daughter, Kim Darnell King and husband Randy of Jonesville; sister, Betty Cockerham of State Road; grandchild, Stephanie King Burns and husband Eric of Fleetwood, NC; great-grandchild, Hunter Burns; brother-in-law, Sonny Stanley and wife Mary Ann of Elkin; sisters-in-law, Jo Darnell of State Road and Sarah Lee Spicer of Elkin and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will conducted Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. John Attaway and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests memorials be made to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 1432 US Hwy 21 N. State Road, NC 28676 or Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd. Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to thank the staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, Pruitt Healthcare and Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home for their care.
