Mrs. Christine Elmore Sloop, age 81, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014. Mrs. Sloop was born March 20, 1933 in Surry County to Albert and Ruby Jennings Elmore. Mrs. Sloop was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She retired as a cook for Southern Belle restaurant. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making candy and collecting dolls. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill and Norris Elmore. Survivors include: her husband, Brady Sloop of the home; daughters, Donna Cheek and husband Frankie of Elkin, Kim Winters and husband Bud of Hamptonville, Sandy Chipman and husband Gwyn of Jonesville; sister, Kathy Brown and husband Roger of Roaring River; brothers-in-law, Sammy Sloop and wife Jan of Jonesville and Roger Ray; sister-in-law, Pauline Elmore of Roaring River; grandchildren, Kelli Torgerson and husband Erik, Dustin Cheek and wife Lyndsey, Nicholas Wilmoth and wife Emily, Jason Wilmoth and wife Tabatha, Joey Ledbetter and wife Megan, Jenna Campbell and husband Matthew and Derek Chipman (India Phillips); fourteen great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Fugate and Rev. Jonah Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to American Lung Association 55 W. Wacker Dr. Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601.
