State Road Ms. Rachel Nichole Evans, age 17, earned her angel wings on Sunday, November 16, 2014. Rachel was born October 11, 1997 in Surry County to Erik Anthony and Kimberly Paige Nichols Evans. Rachel was a student at East Wilkes High School and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a half-sister, Erika Lachelle Evans, her paternal grandfather, Charles F. Evans and her maternal grandmother, Patricia Sloop. Survivors include her parents, Erik A. and Kimberly N. Evans, a sister, Samantha Kay Evans all of the home, her paternal grandmother, Jo Ann Evans of State Road, her maternal grandfather, Neal Nichols of East Bend, her aunt and uncle, Von and Kelly Martin of Winston Salem, several special cousins. A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mitch Smith and Pastor Jason Lawson officiating. Rachel will lie in state at Elkin Funeral Service on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm and on Wednesday from 8:00 am until 12 noon. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Brenner Children's Hospital for the remarkable love and care they gave to Rachel. Rachel loved each one of you and she considered you her extended family.
