Mr. Coley Leonard Gaffney, age 93, passed away, Monday, October 27, 2014 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Gaffney was born January 25, 1921 in Bessemer City, NC to Carl L. and Carrie Lee Stockton Gaffney. Mr. Gaffney was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and a member of American Legion of Mount Airy. Survivors include: his wife Alma Weaver Gaffney of the home; sons, Billy Franklin Gaffney of South Port, NC, David Leonard Gaffney and wife Linda of Alpharetta, GA; brother, Lantz Gaffney and wife June of Elkin; sisters, Doris Johnson of Florida and Valeria Wood of Archdale, NC; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. A Graveside service will be conducted Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Crestwood Memorial Gardens with Dr. Danny Dodds and Dr. Gary Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 prior to the service at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd. Dobson, NC 27017 or Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank their caretaker and special friend Libby Church for her love and care.
