Richard Howard Thompson

Richard Howard Thompson, age 88, passed away Saturday October 4, 2014. Mr. Thompson was born May 26, 1926 in Surry County to Dallas and Edna Cockerham Thompson. Richard retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Richard was also a veteran of the United States Army and served during WWII where he was awarded the Bronze Star. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Carter Thompson and two infant sons, Randy and Mitchell Thompson. Survivors include: a son, Michael Thompson and his wife Myra of Little River, SC, a daughter, Becky Flowers and husband Jimmy of High Point, a brother, Robert Thompson and his wife Geraldine of State Road, a sister, Julia Cheek of Winston Salem, a grandson, Douglas Mitchell Smith and wife Amanda, two great grandchildren, Jakeblee Smith, Veronica Smith. Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 7, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Mitch Smith, Rev. Vernon Ball and Mr. Winfrey Caudill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 2-3pm prior to the service. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church 1997 Pleasant Ridge Road, State Road, NC 28676
