On October 3rd, 2014 God called home Mr. Matthew Paul Hodge, of Elkin, at Forsyth Medical Center after a short term illness. He was a very special gift from God, and we were blessed to have him for 40 years on earth. Although Matthew is no longer with us on earth, another child of God has gone home. Matthew was a very unique, loving and caring young man. He was born December 3, 1973 in Surry County to Lanny and Kathy Hodge. Matthew was a Detention officer at Yadkin County Sherriff's Department for 12 and a-half years and a Volunteer Fireman at Pleasant Hill Fire Department. Matthew played bass guitar at East Elkin Baptist Church where he was a member. He also loved the outdoors especially hunting, fishing and campfires. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Willie Lee and Blanche Poole and a nephew Bailey Pennell. Survivors, In addition to his parents are wife, Wendy Hodge of the home; step-daughter, Jessica Wood of Elkin; step-son, Dillon Wood and his girlfriend Meagan Shaffer of Elkin; grandson, Camden Wood; brother, Shannon Hodge and wife Angie of Taylorsville; sister, Lana Lucas and husband Scott of Dobson; a very special nephew, Jordan Hodge and fiancé Anna Rae McCliment of Clemmons; two nieces, Sabrian and Willow Lucas of Dobson; two nephews, Sebastian and Wolfgang Lucas of Dobson; five Aunts and Uncles, Roger and Billie Smith of Ennice, Harold and Joyce Moxley of Columbia, SC, Austol and Kaye Youmans of Lexington, SC, Larry and Linda Poole of Sparta and Gary and Beverly Poole of Sparta; In-Laws, Ricky and Linda Mitchell of Elkin; brother-in-law, Mark Mitchell and his girlfriend Tonya Richardson of Elkin; several cousins, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. at East Elkin Baptist Church with Rev. Rex Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family would like to express their gratitude to John Sweeney and Staff of Forsyth Medical Center and for all of the prayers and support from everyone that prayed for Matthew.
