Mr. William Roger Childress, age 78, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Chatham Nursing & Rehab. Mr. Childress was born October 16, 1935 in Surry County to William Howard and Annie St. John Childress. Mr. Childress was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Childress East; brothers, Richard Childress, Ralph Childress and James Childress. Survivors include: his wife Barbara C. Childress of the home; daughters, Darlene Childress Bowers and Husband Lester of Hays; Lynne C. Ledbetter and husband Joey of Modesto, CA and Lori Young and husband Frankie of Elkin; sister, Brenda C. Luffman and husband Roger of Boonville; grandchildren, Olen Bowers, Carrie Billings, Ashley Ledbetter, Brian Ledbetter, Jonathan Young and Bailey Young; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Tommy Conley and Rev. Diane Conley officiating. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Chatham Nursing & Rehab, 700 Johnson Ridge Rd. Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank Care South Home Health, Mtn. Valley Hospice and Chatham Nursing & Rehab for their care.
