Mrs. Rebecca Carol Harpe Byrd, age 69, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Byrd was born August 11, 1944 in Surry County to Carl Melton and Edith Mae Willey Harpe. Mrs. Byrd was a member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her sister, Sylvia Ann Jackson. Survivors include: her mother, Edith W. Harpe of Thurmond; husband of 52 years, Clyde Bonson Byrd of the home; daughter, Susan Rebecca Byrd-Nichols and husband Dean of Elkin and brother-in-law, Andrew Jackson of Winston Salem. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital and the staff of Forsyth Medical Center ICU.
