Ethel Lyles Smith

January 22, 1928 — August 4, 2014

Mrs. Ethel Lyles Smith, age 86, passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born January 22, 1928 in Surry County to Archie G. and Vera Bedwell Lyles. Mrs. Smith was a member of Charity Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest James Smith; daughter, Linda Cox; infant daughters, Susan Smith and Vicky Smith; infant son, Mark Smith; brothers, Carlie Lyles and Charlie Lyles; sisters, Nina Brooks and Eva Smith. Survivors include: sons, Roger Smith of Elkin and Donnie Smith and wife Cathy of Elkin; daughter, Gail Johnson and husband Joe of Elkin; special son-in-law, Danny Cox of Thurmond; brother, Willie Ray Lyles of Elkin; grandchildren, Keith Smith, Kelly Doster, Eric Smith and Josh Cox; great-grandchildren, Clara Grace Doster, Clay Doster, Katie Doster and Addison Smith. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Charity Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Cardwell, Rev. John Bowman and Rev. Bobby Lyles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family would like to thank the staff in the ICU department of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hosiptal for their care.
