Mrs. Edith Key Southard, age 97, passed away Monday, August 04, 2014 at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy surrounded by her family. Mrs. Southard was born August 4, 1917 in Surry County to Charlie A. and Clarnie Dockery Key. Mrs. Southard was a member of Bessie's Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Swanson Southard; son, Ronald Pete Southard; two sisters; two brothers. Survivors include: daughter, Mildred Medley and husband Vernon or Elkin; grandchildren, Ronald Southard and wife Karen of Thurmond, Rodney Southard of Wilmington, Paula Moore and husband Greg of Elkin and Marty Medley of Elkin; great-grandchildren, Shannon Owens, Samantha Moore "caregiver", Andrew Moore, Kerri Dobbins and husband Robert, Joshua Southard and Kenneth Southard; six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service with Rev. Ralph Grose officiating. Burial will follow at Bessie's Chapel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and the staff of Central Continiung care for their love and care.
