Mr. Joseph Miller Collins, age 90 passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014. Mr. Collins was born December 25, 1923 in Surry County to Richard Paul and Lura Johnson Collins. Mr. Collins was an Army Veteran during WWII serving in the European Theater. He was member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church and was a member of VFW post 7794. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph Collins and Albert Collins; sisters, Ella Money, Stella Hooper and Maxine Canfield. Survivors include: his wife of 67 years, Alma B. Collins of the home; daughter, Martha Bryant and husband Mike of Denver; brother, Romie Collins and wife Faye of Archdale; sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Collins of Ronda; grandchildren; Bethany Bryant, Brianna Bryant and Joseph Bryant. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Johnson and Rev. Justin Blakely officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family would like to thank Dr. Al Castillejo and staff, Mountain Valley Hospice and caregivers, Susan Hinson, Lara Johnson, Stacy Webb, Sheila Richardson, Jennifer Coleman, Melissa Parker, Joan Hinson and Teresa DeHart for their love and care.
