Thurmond, Marjorie Ellen Davis Acuff Holloway, age 90, passed from this life after a long courageous battle with cancer on June 17 at her home in Thurmond, NC. She was born in Bluford, IL, on May 24, 1924. Marjorie was an active member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church. She worked at Illinois Bell Telephone in Joliet, IL and AT&T affiliates in the San Francisco Bay area. Marjorie was retired with perfect attendance after 30 years of service. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife aunt and friend. Marge was known for her cooking, home canning, hospitality, compassion and encouragement. She was preceded in death by her parents Jewell and Alfred Davis; sister, Doris Whalen and her husband Noel. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, James Howard Holloway; son, Richard Acuff and wife Jacqueline of Robstown, TX; daughter, Linda Acuff Barrowman of Rogers, AR; step daughters, Deborah Holloway, Patricia Prim and husband Randy of Elkin, Sharon Benyola and husband Anthony and Angela Marcus and husband Miles of Jackson of MS; granddaughters, Kimberly Thurman and husband Thom of Southaven, MS, Amy Acuff-Harvey and husband Tye Harvey of Austin, TX and Stephanie Prim of Elkin; grandsons, Jason Barrowman of Rogers, AR, Bryan Acuff and wife Monique of Austin, TX and Samuel and Patrick Marcus of Jackson, MS; great-grandchildren, Troy Thurman, Lacy Thurman, Kyle Thurman, Ian Acuff, Zoe Acuff, Elsa Harvey and Ryker Harvey; niece, Sandra Bauer; nephew, Gary Whalen. Marjorie was the sparkle and the glue that kept our family and others encouraged. We thank God for allowing her to touch so many lives. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service on Friday, June 20, 2014. Funeral services will be held at Roaring Gap Baptist Church, Thurmond, NC Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Burial following in Roaring Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or Roaring Gap Baptist Church Building fund.
