Mrs. Frances Margaret Poe Wood, age 75, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014. Mrs. Wood was born in Ashe County on May 29, 1938 to Lee and Carrie Rouse Poe. Mrs. Wood was a member of Little Stone Mountain Baptist Church and retired from Chatham Manufacturing. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sons, Richard Wood, Joey Wood and Markeal Wood; sister, IvaLee Pennington; brother, Homer Poe. Survivors include: her husband, L.C. Wood of the home; sons, Jerry Wood of Traphill, Marty Wood and wife Kelly of Traphill; daughters, Phyllis Billings and husband Harvey of State Road, Janice Martin and husband Carl of Traphill, Ruby Sullivan and husband Barney of State Road, Rosa Letasz and husband Bob of Palmer, Mass.; brother, Ronnie Poe of Virginia; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Knobbs Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Caudill and Rev. Walter Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service The family requests that memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge St. Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for their love and care shown to Mrs. Wood.
