Rev. David Ray Waddell, Sr., age 73, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Rev. Waddell was born November 18, 1940 in Wilkes County to Steve and Bertha Hemric Waddell. Rev. Waddell was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. He was ordained as a minister at Maple Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Cecil Hooper and served as pastor of Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Mount Airy, Community Baptist Church in Lewisville and Pleasant View Baptist Church in State Road. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Spicer; son-in-law, Shelly Spicer and brother, Wayne Waddell. Survivors include: his wife, Shirley Prevette Waddell of the home; son, David Ray Waddell, Jr. and wife Shannon of Rural Hall; daughters, Shelia Settle and husband Eddie of Elkin and Sandra Ireson and husband Chuck of Liberty; brothers, William Kenneth Waddell of Valdese and Junior Waddell of Elm City; sister, Edna Medenhall of Jonesville; grandchildren, Jennifer Niten, Krystal Swaim, Melissa Settle, Matthew Settle, Brittany Holdaway, Christopher Ireson and Maddox Waddell; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Mitch Smith and Eddie Settle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Ridge Baptst Church fellowship hall fund, 1997 Pleasant Ridge Road State Road, NC 28676.
