Mr. Harold Gwyn Lawrence, age 83 of Elkin, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. He was born April 5, 1931 in Surry County to James F. Lawrence and Marjorie Jane Wall Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America and was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korea War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn C. Lawrence and brothers, Cecil Lawrence and Graham Lawrence. Survivors include: son, Reid Lawrence and his wife Rosemarie of Asheboro; daughter, Kathy Lawrence Chipman of Elkin; grandchildren, Annalise Lawrence, Patrick Lawrence, Travis Chipman, and Justin Chipman; and great grandchild, Jacob Chipman. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family would like to thank Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, Hugh Chatham Nursing Center, Elkin Assisted Living, Mountain Valley Hospice, and Dr. Paul Gulley for their care.
