Mr. Thomas Elbert Spicer, age 99, passed away Friday April 4, 2014 at Willowbrook Nursing Center. Mr. Spicer was born March 13, 1915 in Wilkes County to Alfred L. and Callie Spicer. Mr. Spicer was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and also retired from Chatham Manufacturing. He was a founding member of Benham Ruritan Club. Tom loved gardening and sharing his bounty with his friends. To many he was affectionately known as Pa Tom. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Spicer; son, James Thomas Spicer; daughter-in-law Carol Spicer; sisters, Ruby Tharpe, Mary Thompson and Mamie Couch; half- brothers, Nick Sawyer, Carl Sawyer, and Claude Sawyer. Survivors include: daughter, Sarah Gray and husband John of Winston Salem; brothers, Bramlet Spicer and wife Sarah of Traphill and Lonnie Spicer and wife Bea of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Tammy Day and husband Eddie, Sharon Gray Lantis and husband James, Thomas Spicer and wife Melissa; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Somers and husband Brett, Katie Spicer, Sarah Spicer and Natalie Brooke Palmer; great-great-grandchildren, Reagan Somers, Ethan Palmer and Savana Palmer. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, April 7, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Blevins and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Share-A-Home of Boonville, 2800 Woodruff Rd.
