Mary Benge

October 4, 1927 — January 19, 2014

Mrs. Mary Lyons Benge, age 86 passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014. Mrs. Benge was born October 4, 1927 in Surry County to Jessie and Fannie Hayes Lyons. Mrs. Benge was a member of Knobbs Baptist Church and retired from Pepsi Co. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Posey Lyons, Worth Lyons, Junior Lyons; sisters, Stella Caudill, Marie Troutman and Martha Gentry. Survivors include: husband, Alvin Benge of the home; sons, David Lyons of East Bend, Tony Benge and wife Ann of Thurmond, Tim Benge and wife Denise of Roaring River; daughters, Patricia Waddell and husband Alton of Roaring River, Kay Billings and husband Brady of Traphill; fifteen grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Knobbs Baptist Church with Rev. Ritchie Harris, Rev. Derick Barker and Rev. Richard Caudill officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N Bridge St Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank the staff at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Mountain Valley Hospice and the many friends and family for all their loving care.
