Mr. Joseph Edwin DeJournette, Jr. age 87 of Thurmond, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014. He was born March 16, 1926 in Wilkes County to Joseph Edwin and Ethel Ruby Lewis DeJournette, Sr. He was a member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church and Retired from Chatham Manufacturing. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Cockerham DeJournette. Survivors include: son, Mark DeJournette of Burlington; daughter, Jo A. deJournette of Thurmond; grandchildren, Katie DeJournette, Olivia DeJournette, Emma DeJournette, and Charlie DeJournette; special friends, Benny Lee Barker of Thurmond and Noralee Simmons of Thurmond. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the home. The family requests that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621 or Roaring Gap Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 267 E. Roaring Gap Church Road, Thurmond, NC 28683. The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice for their care.
