Mr. Kenneth "Kenn" William Ahrens, age 66 of Elkin, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. He was born July 13, 1947 in Ulster County, NY to Horace and Blanche Smith Ahrens. Mr. Ahrens was a veteran of the US Army serving during Vietnam and was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, JoAnn J. Ahrens of the home; daughter, Tammie Ann Burks and her husband Robert of Richmond, VA; sister, Joan Rogers of PA; grandchildren, Will Burks and Jacob Burks. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. John Attaway officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the US National Honor Guard and Yadkin VFW post 10346 will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
