Mrs. Mary Frances Hall went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at her home in State Road. Mrs. Hall was born June 6th in Surry County to Thad Allen and Ettie Evans Stanley. She worked her early years at Chatham Manufacturing in the worsting department. Mrs. Hall took great pride in her work and maintained a strong work ethic. She then leased and operated the Elkin Hotel Coffee Shop for four years. After gaining restaurant experience, she founded the family restaurant, Speedy Chef in 1968. She shared her love of cooking with the community which she loved dearly for 43 years until becoming ill. She will always be remembered for her friendly smile, kind disposition and generosity in the community. Mrs. Hall was saved at the age of 9 and remained a devoted Christian all her life. She was a member of the Compass Worship Church. She and her husband John began their marriage of 66 years on January 18, 1948! She was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Thurmond Stanley and Leroy Stanley; sister, Mary Lee Stanley Watson. Mrs. Hall is survived by her loving husband, John Royce Hall, Sr.; sons, Rev. Mike Hall and wife Jean of State Road, Tony Hall and wife Tommi Jane Mendenhall of State Road, Johnny Hall and wife Jennifer of State Road; brothers, Rev. Ralph Stanley and Romas Allen Stanley; special sisters-in-law, Carolyn Williams of Zephyr and Shirley Southard of Zephyr and by many loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hall is survived by 7 grandchildren: Carrie Latham and husband Lee of Apex, Michael Hall and wife Brandi of State Road, Matthew Hall of State Road, Tiffany McIver and husband Adam of Winston Salem, Tyler McIver of St. Augustine, FL, Mary-Frances Hall of State Road and Harrison Hall of State Road. Mrs. Hall is survived by 6 great-grandchildren: Brian Latham, Morgan Latham, Addison Latham, Emerson McIver, Eleanor Hall and Emery Hall. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, January 2, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Elkin Funeral Service. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, January 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Ralph Stanley and Rev. Mike Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The grandsons, great-grandsons, and a close friend will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice 688 North Bridge St. Elkin, NC 28621.
