Mr. Cline "Mack" McFarland Hendrick, age 88, passed away at his home in Elkin Saturday, December 21, 2013. He was born August 11, 1925 in Cliffside, NC to Maurice and Lela McFarland Hendrick. He was a graduate of Cliffside High School in 1942 and North Carolina State University in 1949. Mack was a veteran of World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart after being wounded in France in 1944. He retired from Chatham Manufacturing in 1988. Mack was a member of the Elkin Kiwanis Club and First Baptist Church of Elkin where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon, chairman of the Deacon Board, and moderator. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister, Elizabeth H. Hendrick and brother and sister-in-law Harry and Betty Hendrick. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Avis Elliott Hendrick, their three children Anne Moore of Martinsville, VA, Frank Hendrick and his wife Jeannette of Elkin, and Jane Hendrick of Elkin; grandchildren Christy Carter and husband James of Elkin, Denise Felts and husband Toby of Mt. Airy, Martin Moore of Greenville, SC, Elizabeth Bryant and husband Garrett of Roaring River, Greg Moore and wife Chelsi of Knoxville, TN; great grandchildren Jim Carter, Will Felts, Katie Carter, and Lilly Felts; and special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. A graveside service will be conducted Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Hollywood Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Elkin to celebrate and honor his life.
