Larry Martin Kincaid

Hamptonville Larry Kincaid "Poppy", age 65 went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 13, 2013. He was born in Gastonia on September 18, 1948 to Howard and Gladys Kincaid. Larry served in the US army and fought in the Vietnam War from 1968-1970. He retired from Phillips Van-Heusen and loved his beloved co-workers and employers. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2007 and had made it his passion to advocate for the disease. He became involved with the MDA and made it his mission to raise not only money but awareness for people that faced muscular diseases. Larry served as the spokesman for NC MDA and served in the ALS Association of the Jim "Catfish" Hunter Chapter. Larry woke up each day thanking God for the body parts that worked and ask God to help him use them to make a difference in someone's life. Larry was a man of great faith and trusted God in everything he did. He was always positive and loved everyone he ever met. He believed that everyone had a choice each day to make a positive or a negative influence on others. His philosophy was to always make a positive influence. He was such an inspiration to everyone that was honored to know and love him. Larry was a member of Marler Road Baptist Church and loved going to the Lord's house to worship and praise God. He attended Arlington First Baptist church and East Elkin church, where he taught Sunday School and was involved with the youth and the senior citizens. He was preceeded in death by his precious wife, Audrey Kincaid, his parents, Howard and Gladys Kincaid, and his brother Junior Kincaid. Survivors include: his daughter, Krystal Myers and her husband Jeff of Hamptonville. His grandchildren, Bethany Myers, Tyler Myers, Trey Myers, his mother in law, Ruby Mitchell of Elkin, his brother and sister in law, Ricky and Linda Mitchell, a nephew Mark Mitchell of Elkin, his nieces, Wendy Hodge of Elkin, Kimberly Homesly of Gastonia, Lisa Bell of Gastonia, Lori Kincaid of Gastonia, and many special friends and coworkers. Funeral services will be held Tuesday December 17, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Marler Road Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Randy Johnson and Dr. Wesley Smith. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8pm at Elkin Funeral Service. The family would like to thank everyone for the out-pouring of love from his many friends, family members and special doctors and nurses, especially from Elkin Pediatric and Adult Medicine. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials be made to the MDA of Greensboro 1500 Pinecroft Road, Suite 109 Greensboro, NC 27407.
