Mrs. Joanne Poutsma Grit, age 93 passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Ceneter. Mrs. Grit was born June 30, 1920 in Jamestown, Michigan to Wilbur and Elizabeth Elzinga Poutsma. Mrs. Grit was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry John Grit;sisters, Grace Grit and Angie DeKraker. Survivors include: sons, John Grit of Holland, Michigan, Bill Grit of Holland, Michigan, Jeff Grit and wife Rachel of Roaring River; daughters, Linda Rynbrandt and husband Bob of West olive, Michigan and Deb Tharpe and husband Fred of Simpsonville, South Carolina; sister, Gert Vos of Zeeland, Michigan; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, December 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in Durham Family Cemetery in Roaring River. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church, 118 North Elkin Dr. Elkin, NC 28621. They family would like to thank the staff at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center for their care.
