Mr. William Gregory Wall, age 54 of North Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, November 16, 2013. He was born April 29, 1959 in Wilkes County, NC to Raymond and Vivian Byrd Walls of Roaring River, NC.He was a 1978 graduate of East Wilkes High School and later joined the US Navy in 1979. He was honorably discharged in 1985 and maintained residence in San Diego, CA in a Federal Government position. Later, he became employed with the TSA at the San Diego International Airport. In 2007 he requested a transfer with the TSA to Charleston, SC where he remained until his death.Will was baptized on August 10, 1969 and remained a member of Rachel Baptist Church in Roaring River, NC. It was always his desire to be buried at his home church overlooking the mountains and countryside and be close to his family. Will was preceded in death by a sister, Patty W. Brooks. Survivors include: his parents, Raymond and Vivian Walls; sister, Gaye W. Dimmette and her husband James Michael Dimmette. Uncle Will, as he was so often known, left behind three nieces, Tricia Phillips and husband John, Shaun Dowell and husband Kenneth, and Megahn Boswell and her husband Jamie; one nephew, Matthew Brooks and his wife Rachel. When Will visited North Carolina he was always surrounded by many wonderful family members including aunt, uncles, and cousins. He also has a great niece, Rachel Ford and several great nephews; Zacharay Ford, Noah Ford, Kaleb Dowell, Dylan Dowell, Sheldon Boswell, Shayden Boswell, and Seamus Boswell. Will's best childhood memories were spent with his cousins; Karen Byrd, Joel Byrd, Billy Osborne, and Connley Howard and they were known as the "pack" and were inseparable. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Mr. Cecil Wood, Rev. Mark Wagg, and Mr. Calvin Linville officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by Yadkin Post 10346 will follow at Rachel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, NC Chapter, 410 Harrison Oaks Blvd., Cary, NC 27513.The family would like to especially thank Rachel Baptist Church in Roaring River, NC and Bethany Baptist Church in N. Wilkesboro, NC who have been supportive with their calls, cards, and prayers during Will's illness. The family would like to thank the extended church family in Charleston, SC, Wando Woods Baptist Church and the Advent Lutheran Church who supported is with daily visits, encouragement, prayers, and blessing in the name of Christ. We also would like to thank all the many friends in the neighborhood in which Will resided who gave us daily support and encouragement. A very special thank you is given to Will's co-workers at TSA who showed to our family the true meaning of friendship. Also, we would like to thank all the wonderful staff members at MUSC and Hollings Cancer Center of Charleston.
