Mr. Jack Jacob Hester, age 81 of State Road, a loving husband and father went to be with our Lord on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at his home in State Road after a long illness. Jack was born March 21, 1932 in Wilkes County to Charlie Felix and Lou Elizabeth Hester. He graduated from Newton-Conover High School in 1952 where he participated in many sports excelling in baseball, basketball, and tennis. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and a scoutmaster. He was also an avid golfer and loved to fish. He was a loyal member of Grassy Creek United Methodist Church where he held several offices throughout the years. He was in the wholesale plumbing business for over thirty years. He married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Cochrane Hester, on November 27, 1955. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hester of 58 years; sons, Jack Randal "Randy" Hester of Boonville, Michael Hester and wife Teresa of Dobson; daughter, Debra Hester Collins and husband Eddie of State Road; four grandchildren;one step-granddaughter; five great-grandchildren; numerous special nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law; Helen Hester of Conover and Evelyn Hester of Lincolnton. Jack's loss will affect many people that loved him and he will truly be missed. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 2:00pm at Grassy Creek United Methodist Church in State Road with Rev. Melinda Penry, Rev. Jim Pritchard and Chaplin Randy Hillman officiating. Mr. Hester will lie instate thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
