Mr. George Baker, age 73 passed away Monday, November 11, 2013. Mr. Baker was born March 17, 1940 in Surry County to Thomas M. and Mamie Cheek Baker. Mr. Baker was not only dedicated to his community but also his church, Roaring Gap Baptist Church were he was a member for many years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Baker retired from Westinghouse in Winston Salem. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Arvil Baker and Grady Baker. Survivors include: his wife of 51 years, Jo Ann S. Baker of the home; sons, Tim Baker & wife Alice of Elkin, Jeff Baker and wife Judy of Thurmond, Mark Baker and wife Robin of State Road; daughter, Diane Settle and husband David of Thurmond; brother, Roy Baker of Traphill; sisters, Betty Lou Ashley of Yadkinville, Pauline Mooney of State Road, Dorothy Jester of Boonville, Barbara Jean St. John of East Bend and Margaret Sneed of Boonville; grandchildren, Tanner Baker, Dillon Baker, Carrie Baker, Stephanie Baker, Nick Baker, Joe Baker, Nathan Baker, Courtney Settle and Colton Settle. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Roaring Gap Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Hackler and Rev. Russ Nixon officiating. Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Roaring Gap Baptist Church 267 E. Roaring Gap Church Road Thumond, NC 28683.
