Rev. Jerry Ward Adams

August 28, 1935 — October 27, 2013

Rev. Jerry Ward Adams, age 78 of State Road, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 27, 2013. He was born August 28, 1935 in Surry County to Gratis W. Adams and Mary Emma Norman Adams. Rev. Adams was a 1954 graduate of Elkin High School and served in the US Army from 1958-1959. He was retired from Chatham Manufacturing. Rev. Adams pastured five churches during his lifetime, taught Bible College at Cherry Grove Baptist Church in Moravian Falls and attended Maranatha Baptist Church in Yadkinville where he served as Sunday school teacher. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Dale Adams; sisters, Ruth A. Sloop and Nancy A. Snow; nephew, Dale Adams; niece, Debbie Blackburn; and sister-in-law, Debra Adams. Survivors include: his wife of 58 years, Kathleen J. Adams of the home; son, Benny Adams of Jonesville; daughter, Lorie Hensley and husband Harry of Statesville; grandson, Phillip Adams and wife Carol of Claudeville, VA; granddaughters, Macie Hensley and Rachel Adams; great granddaughter, Emily Adams; nephews, Montie Adams, Keith Blackburn; and nieces Shelby Adams and Ashley Adams; brothers, Jackie Adams and his wife Deborah of Sparta, Timmy Adams of Thurmond; sister-in-law, Carolyn Brown of State Road; brother-in-law, Tommy Snow of Jonesville. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Harry Hensley and Rev. Benny Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Maranatha Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW post 10346. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening form 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621 The family would like to express their gratitude for all the prayers, telephone calls, cards and support given to them by the many churches, family and friends. Also a special thank you to neighbors Syble and Teddy Caudill, Dr. Carol Albright and staff, Mountain Valley Hospice, Cathy Johnson, Kelly Ingram, Melinda Cockerham, Kristen Miller and Bill Johnson, hospice chaplain for their care.
