Rev. Roby Floyd Wilcox, age 91 of Elkin, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. He was born January 1, 1922 in Todd, NC to Floyd Roby Wilcox and Bessie Grogan Wilcox. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII. Rev. Wilcox was retired from Chatham Manufacturing with 38 years of service and was pastor of Friendly Tabernacle in Mount Airy for 47 years. He attended Ronda Church of God. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son, Dennis Wilcox; two brothers and seven sisters. Survivors include: his wife of 67 years, Bertha Mae Payne Wilcox of the home; son, Roby Dean Wilcox and his wife Phyllis of Elkin; daughter-in-law, Frances Wilcox of Clingman; brother Johnny Wilcox of N. Wilkesboro; sister, Ruth Anderson of Walkertown; grandchildren, Tim Wilcox and his wife Valerie, Jeff Wilcox and his wife Amy, R.J. Wilcox, and Melissa Wilcox; great grandchildren, Nicholas Wilcox, Kendall Wilcox, Branton Wilcox, Sydney Wilcox, Nathan Wilcox, and William Henry Wilcox. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Central Full Gospel with Rev. Bobby Norman and Rev. Jody Bewley officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests that memorials be made to Friendly Tabernacle c/o Mr. Phillip Edmonds, 158 Westview Drive, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
