Mrs. Esther Williams Steele of Elkin, passed away Monday, October 07, 2013, on her 86th birthday, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born on October 7, 1927 in Dobson, NC to the late Walter and Grace Love Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Cockerham Steele and a sister, Evie Williams Thompson. She is survived by a brother, Worth Williams and his wife Lucille of Dobson. Surviving children are Garry Alan Steele and his wife Sherry of Mocksville and Hugh Eric Steele of Elkin; daughter-in-law, Teresa Steele of Jonesville; grandchildren Matthew Steele, Kristy Steele, and Nikki Francis and great grandchildren Destinee Carter, Evans Steele, Palmer Francis, and Hank Francis. Esther was a long time member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and faithfully attended her Sunday School Class as long as her health was good. She loved her church and being involved with others there. She was a dedicated wife, mother, worker, grandmother and friend. She thoroughly enjoyed reading God's word and hearing sermons about God and her place in this world. She was kind hearted and loved to cook. She was steadfast in her love for Christ and living a Christian lifestyle and exemplified this to her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be conducted Friday, October 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Mrs. Steele will lie-in-state Thursday at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests that memorials be made to Elkin Valley Baptist Church, 118 N. Elkin Drive, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank Dr. Johnny Blevins, Elkin Valley Baptist Church, Forsyth Medical Center Palliative Care Unit, and Magnolia's over Yadkin for their care.
