Jonesville, Mr. Roy Wilborn Carter, age 83, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013. Mr. Carter was born November 27, 1929 in Surry County to Hugh Jones Carter and Nettie Ann Carter. Mr. Carter was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of DAV of Traphill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Freeman Carter; son, Joey Welborn Carter; six brothers and one sister. Survivors include: son, Ronald Carter Sr. and wife Brenda of Jonesville; daughters, Gloria Ann Carter of Elkin, Jennifer Carter Freeman and husband Stephen of Jefferson and Fredia Carol Carter of Indiana; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren and three great- great- great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday September 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Wesley Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Welcome Home Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW post 10346. The family will receive friends Tuesday, evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mineral Springs Baptist Church Childrens Fund 211 Cedarbrook Rd. Jonesville, NC 28642.
