Ms. Mildred Poole Dixon, age 97 passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at UniHealth Post-Acute Care of Elkin. Ms. Dixon was born January 23, 1916 in Bridgeport Washington to Fred and Eva Green Poole. She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Elkin and head of the alter committee for many years. She was also an avid golfer and loved sports. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by sister, Madge Kerley. Survivors include: daughter, Barbara McCann and husband John of Elkin; son, Dan Dixon and wife Becky of Elkin; granddaughters, Laura Smidt and husband Jeff of South Riding, VA and Rebecca Compton and husband Paul of South Riding, VA; grandsons, Richard Boyd of Greensboro and Stephen Boyd of Kernersville; great grandsons, James Smidt of Greensboro and Matthew Smidt of Richmond, VA; sister, Ms. Lindsey Dorsett of Winston Salem and one niece and one nephew. A memorial service will be held Saturday,September 21, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to your charity of choice. The family wishes to thank the staff at UniHealth Post-Acute care for the loving care they gave to Ms. Dixon for so many years.
