Mr. James Roosevelt Barker, age 90 passed away Monday, September 2, 2013 at Woltz Hospice Home of Dobson. Mr. Barker was born May 5, 1923 in Wilkes County to The Reverend Benjamin Harrison Barker and Bertha Pruitt Barker. Mr. Barker was a WWII Navy Veteran who particapted in the D-Day invasion in Europe. He was a retired Wet Finish Supervisor at Chatham Manufacturing for over 40 years. He was a member of Benham Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter; Janet Shirley Honeycutt, brothers; Cecil I. Barker and Ermal W. Barker, sisters; Mary Ethel Durham, Grace F. Barker, Pansy A. Barker and Flora C. Pardue. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years Eva Jean Warren Barker of the home, son; Stephen C. Barker and wife Ginger of Mt. Pleasant NC, brothers; Luther M. Barker, Kenneth R. Barker, Benny A. Barker and G. Rex Barker, sisters; Mary Lee Welborn and Hazel Blevins, grandchildren; Stephanie Amber Sweeney and husband Brock of Dobson, Amanda Jane Farmer and husband Ryan of Kernersville, great-grandson; Logan Brock Sweeney. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Mac Warren and Rev. Elmer Barker officiating. Burial will follow at Old Roaring River Baptist Church Cemetery on Longbottom Rd. with full military honors by Wilkes County V.F.W post # 1142 Honor Guard. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd. Dobson, NC 27017.
