Mr. Olin Dennis Lyon, age 79 slipped away to meet the Lord Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home surrounded by his family and holding the hand of his wife of 60 years. Mr. Lyon was born January 11, 1934 in Wilkes County to Thomas Morgan and Edna Cockerham Lyon. Mr. Lyon was a Veteran of the U.S. Airforce, he retired from the U.S. Postal service and was also a Barber at Elkin Barber Shop for many years. Mr. Lyon was a member of Austin Baptist Church where he was an ordained Deacon and former Sunday School Teacher. He was well known for his musical talents and played with various groups throughout his lifetime and taught many students as well. Mr. Lyon was a former Scout Master and member of the Austin Fire Department Board. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by half sisters; Vaude Brown and Lela Nelson, nephews; Kelly Adams, Stephen Lyon and Bobby Joe Lyon, nieces; Rosemary Hicks and Betty Lyons. Survivors include: his wife, Betty Caudill Lyon of the home, son; Dale Lyon and wife Patty of Elkin, daughter; Tammy Johnson and husband Carlton of Elkin, brothers; Boyce Lyon of Asheville, Louis Lyon and wife Lucille of East Bend, Joe Lyon and wife Idesta of Elkin; Ray Lyon and wife Sandra of Traphill, sister; Faye Spicer and husband Edgar of Forest City, special grandchildren; Kendall Denise Johnson and Kelly Marie Johnson, special adopted granddaughter, Gloria Greene Lee; special in-laws the Caudill family, lots of loving nieces and nephews, and a host of friends he made through out the years. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 4:30 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Walter Hutchinson, Rev. Randy Warden, and Rev. Russ Nixon. Burial will follow at Austin Baptist Church Cemetery with full Military honors conducted by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 27, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Funeral home. The family request that memorials be made to Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to thank Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Dr. Al Castillejo, Dr. Stephen Walker and the staff of Elkin Pediatric and Adult Medicine for the loving care they gave Mr. Lyon.
