Winnon Arphew Collins

September 21, 1932 — August 18, 2013

Mr. Winnon Arphew Collins, age 80 passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013. Mr. Collins was born September 21, 1932 in Yadkin County to Voard and Lela Doss Collins. Mr. Collins was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he joined in 1961 and served as a deacon for 40 years and taught Sunday School for 25 years he was also head of the Finance Committee for several years. He worked for Standard Coffee Home Shopping Service for 33 years and owned and operated Collins Unlimited in three locations for 23 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son; Michael Collins and brothers; James Collins and Billy Collins. Survivors include: his wife of 62 years Kathleen Darnell Collins of the home, son; Eddie Collins and wife Cathy of Wilkesboro, daughter; Diane Draughn and husband Luther of Roaring River, daughter-in-law; Donna Gambill Collins of N. Wilkesboro, grandchildren; Holly Collins Blair and husband Jason of Morehead City, Travis Collins and wife Nicole of N. Wilkesboro, Morgan Collins of N. Wilkesboro and Garrett Collins of N. Wilkesboro, great-grandchildren; Gracie Blair, Sophie Blair and Reece Collins. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds and Rev. Steve Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30-12:00 prior to the service at the church. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church 4G Building Fund, 593 Pleasant Hill Dr. Elkin, NC 28621. The Family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice, Gaither and Carol Barker, R.L. Spencer and many family and friends for their visits, prayers and food.
