Mr. Charles Curtis Nixon, age 73 passed away Tuesday, August, 6 2013. Mr. Nixon was born September 4, 1939 in Surry County to Mack and Mary Mayes Nixon. Mr. Nixon attended Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church and was a past member of the Mountain Park Fire Department. Mr. Nixon was a second class Petty Officer in the U.S Navy serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis and received a National Defense service medal, two good conduct medals and two expeditionary medals. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Nixon, John Nixon and Billy Jack Nixon. Survivors include: his wife Nancy Golden Nixon of the home; sons, Greg Nixon and wife Vicky of Thurmond, Jeff Nixon and wife Frances of Thurmond; daughter, Katherine N. Minton and husband Donny of Thurmond; one sister, Nancy Nixon Lloyd of Thurmond; grandchildren, Candy Nixon Lineberry and husband Lee, Nathan Nixon, Curtis Coe and wife Heather, Shantana Nixon and Brittany Nixon; Step-grandchildren, Shannon Minton and wife Dandy, Brandon Minton and wife Donna and Nicholas Minton and wife Sarah; five great- grandchildren, Meka Lineberry, Charley Lineberry, Lucius Coe, Jayden Coe and Kaylen Coe, four step great grandchildren; Caleb Minton, Breannon Minton, Lyric Brown and Malachi Brown. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Tony White and Mr. Frank Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery, with full Military Honors offered by VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
